It may be that your birth was a positive experience but you developed postnatal depression . Perhaps you had a premature birth, a caesarian birth or struggled with the challenges of having a newborn baby.


What is birth trauma?

The birth or postnatal trauma experienced is personal, and does not require meeting any criteria except how you feel and the symptoms manifesting in your day to day life. .

The symptoms experienced by someone who has gone through a traumatic event can be distressing day to day. It can look look many things including – A constant replaying, or avoiding the memory, hyper vigilance, anxiety and anger. Such symptoms and feelings can all wear away at a person’s confidence and resilience after a while.  And it is natural to wonder when will these heavy feelings will leave?

The fight or flight response is one of our most primitive survival systems and is designed for to allow us to act in the face of life threatening danger.  The highly aroused emotions of fear and helplessness present during the trauma become inextricably, biologically linked to the memory of the event.  It is a neurobiological process and therefore no amount of willing it to go away will or thinking positive will shift it.

3 steps rewind technique

This technique is a hugely effective 1:1 therapeutic treatment for those who have experienced trauma during birth or early postnatal period. The entire process is often completed in 3 steps and frequently in 3 consecutive weeks.

If you identify with difficult and sometimes intense feelings which interfere or have interfered with your ability to enjoy your baby/child – please do get in touch. The 3 step Rewind technique is a quick most effective process. It does not require digging through and reliving the trauma but working with the part of the brain responsible for not processing the experiences. This is achieved through relaxation and a well tried and tested method, usually in 3 sessions. This technique is available to fathers and birth partners/professionals who may also have experienced trauma as a compassionate witness.

Suitable for mothers, fathers and birth workers. The duration of the first 2 sessions is 60 – 90 minutes with the 3rd session a 30 minute appointment face to face or by phone.
